As part of our effort to provide middle school stVudents (grades 6-8) with opportunities to give back to their community while also connecting primary age students with appropriate role models within the school community we have created a middle school mentoring program called “Primary Pals”. Through this program trained and supervised middle school students will be paired with first graders for weekly meetings and activities. Activities will be supervised by Mr. Sheahan, Guidance Counselor, and will take place during lunch/recess time (students will not miss lunch).
In order to qualify as a “mentor” middle school students are expected to maintain above average grades and demonstrate appropriate behavior and attitude throughout school. Failure to live up to these expectations will mean that they will not be able to participate in “Primary Pals”. Activities will include indoor and outdoor games, tutoring, craft projects, reading and other appropriate choices. The “Pals” program has been very popular and I know that this year will be a continued success. “Pals” are paired with a mentor who shares similar interests; all activities are planned prior to the meeting day. Mentors periodically meet to discuss sessions and make plans for future activities. I am excited to offer this program again this year as it provides a terrific opportunity for both middle school and primary level students.
